In reply to the comment and discussion by Davila (2009) of Carrapa et al. (2008), we would like to address the central issue of thick-skinned deformation and its relationship with flat-slab subduction. In his comment, Davila (2009) disagrees with our interpretation of a normal to broken foreland transition at ca. 6 Ma and its possible relationship with flat-slab subduction. In particular, Davila (2009) disagrees with (1) the timing of transformation from “simple flexural stages” to “broken foreland scenarios” proposed by Carrapa et al. (2008); and (2) a synchronous slab shallowing at ca. 6 Ma. Carrapa et al. (2008)...
