Hippensteel et al., in their comments regarding the paper, “Records of prehistoric hurricanes on the South Carolina coast based on micropaleontological and sedimentological evidence, with comparison to other Atlantic coast records,” (Scott et al., 2003) appear to be centered on two aspects—one is that we did not reference their work; the second is our methods of detecting hurricanes—that is our perception at least. We were guilty of not discussing Hippensteel and Martin (1999, 2000); however, all the other references mentioned are abstracts except the Master's thesis, which also is not something we would normally reference.
