In a recent paper in the Bulletin,Mukasa and Dalziel (2000) presented U-Pb zircon geochronological data for igneous rocks from Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica. Although contributing a significant body of new data, they failed to make proper comparison with published Rb-Sr ages on the same suite of samples, apparently taking the popular view that igneous rocks can only be dated accurately by U-Pb methods. Significantly, some of their claims to precedence in conclusions cannot be supported, because identical conclusions have been previously published on the basis of the Rb-Sr data.
