Hooyer and Iverson (2000) presented the results of shear-box experiments performed on till matrix material obtained from below Storglaciaren, and they discussed their implications for mechanisms of fabric development in subglacial deforming layers and fault gouge. The results of their well-designed experiments are of great interest, although they have misrepresented the existing literature on subglacial till fabrics and, consequently, overemphasize the originality of their own conclusions.
