We are pleased to respond to the Discussion of Larsen and Crossey, which questions some of our interpretations (Finkelstein et al., 1999). We agree with some of their issues, disagree with others, and think that still other issues need additional research to answer more definitively. In summary, we continue to think that the most reasonable model for ancient Lake Creede is a saline to hypersaline, near-neutral lake with abundant SO4 and Cl.
