Cather (1999) provided a useful compilation of stratigraphic data relevant to tests of models for possible dextral offset along the east side of the Colorado Plateau during the Laramide orogeny. His paper allowed the reader to judge whether this independent data set is consistent with significant dextral offset during the latest Cretaceous through Eocene deformation. In contrast to the paper's conclusion, however, a careful reading of the paper should convince the reader that the stratigraphic data are completely compatible with other models for Laramide deformation in this area, models that Cather does not cite (e.g., Bird, 1988, 1998;...
