Simple organic-walled microfossils cannot be classified in the same way as living microorganisms because they do not show the necessary characters. An objective paleontological assessment of early evolution and Precambrian biostratigraphy will be possible only if a morphological scheme of classification is adopted and applied to microfossils from all facies.
