A simple Mesozoic sea-floor-spreading model of the fragmentation of Gondwanaland indicates that reconstruction of the Antarctic Peninsula adjacent to the southern or Patagonian Andes is a plausible alternative to previous reconstructions. The simple model reproduces some major elements of the known Mesozoic geologic history of the Antarctic Peninsula and southern Andes.
