Abstract
Fossilized fragments of the Late Devonian pelagic alga Foerstia (Protosalvinia) were collected from the Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation well 20403 that was drilled in the western part of Lincoln County in southwestern West Virginia. This is the first report of an occurrence of Foerstia (Protosalvinia) in West Virginia, and its presence in the core supports the physical correlation of the zone that contains these fossils with the Huron Member of the Ohio Shale.
