Abstract
Magnetic lineations mapped between the Wallaby and Exmouth plateaus off western Australia in the eastern Indian Ocean are identified as Early Cretaceous reversals M-0 to M-4 and some older part of the Early Cretaceous reversal sequence. They formed at the same plate boundary as the anomalies to the south in the Perth abyssal plain and, likewise, date the Early Cretaceous breakup of eastern Gondwanaland at between 120 and 135 m.y. The presence of these lineations implies that the “Greater India” or Tibetan part of Gondwanaland lay adjacent to western Australia as far north as the Exmouth plateau prior to breakup of the supercontinent.
