Peakall et al. (2012) demonstrate that submarine channels exhibit a global latitudinal variation in sinuosity. In contrast, alluvial river channels show no such global variation. However, a variation of sinuosity with latitude has been observed for bedrock-floored river channels between the equator and the mid-latitudes in the western North Pacific (Stark et al., 2010).
