Ji is apparently confused by several aspects of our paper (Jin et al., 2001) and seems to have incomplete knowledge of natural eclogite microstructures. We are pleased to clarify some of the points raised by Ji in this Reply. Ji asserts that our experimental results are not applicable to Earth because he and others have shown flattening of garnets in naturally deformed eclogites, and also others have observed dislocations in naturally deformed garnets.
