Stel et al. claim that pitted cobbles occur not only in the vicinity of the impact structures (northeastern Spain), but also in a large area extending west and south of these structures. This agrees with our own observation that pitted cobbles occur up to ∼75 km distance from the impacts (e.g., Monasterio de Piedra, Sierra de Albarracin). We further note that the conglomerates are homogeneously endowed with these pitted cobbles. These observations are compatible with a widely homogeneous dynamic shock stress field around the impacts but seem to us to be inconsistent with pressure dissolution initiated by locally varying tectonic...
