This contribution represents a valuable synthesis concerning the magnitude and timing of deformation in the intracontinental Atlas fold belt of Morocco, which has accommodated 17%–45% of the total African-Eurasian plate convergence since the early Miocene. According to Gomez et al. (2000) deformation consists of reverse displacements along a flat crustal shear zone. Indeed, this concept must be adopted to explain the uplift that exceeds 4000 m in the High Atlas and 3000 m in the Middle Atlas.
