De Sigoyer et al. (2000), studying Tso Morari eclogites in northern Ladakh (northwest Himalaya), claim to have “dated eclogite formation and therefore the timing of the onset of India—Asian contact in the northwest Himalaya at 55 ± 6 Ma.” Their ages (Lu-Hf 55 ± 12 Ma; Sm-Nd 55 ± 7 Ma) correspond closely to a previously published U-Pb allanite age of 55 ± 17 Ma (de Sigoyer et al., 1999).
