We are pleased to have an opportunity to discuss further the major points of our paper (McLaurin and Steel, 2000) and address the concerns outlined by the Comment by Yoshida et al. Their knowledge and appreciation of the stratigraphic complexity of the Castlegate Formation is evident in their contribution toward understanding the nature of the nonmarine to marine transition (Yoshida et al., 1996; Willis, 2000).
