We appreciate the comments of Ortega-Gutiérrez and Keppie. The Neoproterozoic AUSWUS reconstruction of Karlstrom et al. (1999) (AUSWUS #1) differs from our preferred reconstruction (AUSWUS #2) in interposing various Mexican terranes between Laurentia and Australia. We agree that there are problems with the placement of the Mexican terranes, particularly of Oaxaquia next to Laurentia. We have long been aware of the early Paleozoic Gondwana affinities of Oaxaquia (e.g., Burrett, 1973). We suggest that any needed eastward continuation of the Grenville-correlated rocks in central Australia was via the Cape River and Iron Range terranes of north Queensland (shown on Fig....
