Abstract
Coeval crystallographic growth sectors were microsampled from a fracture-filling calcite cement crystal with well-developed crystal faces and concentric zoning to test empirically for isotopic sector zoning. Isotopic and minor element homogeneity among coeval parts of the {0112} and {2131} sectors suggests that isotopic sector zoning does not occur in calcite. Empirical results are compatible with theoretical considerations based on crystal surface geometry, growth mechanisms, and a thermodynamic growth model.
