Reworked nannofossils in the North Atlantic Ocean and subpolar basins: Implications for Heinrich events and ocean circulation Available to Purchase

The age and geographic distribution of reworked nannofossils in surface sediments from the North Atlantic Ocean suggest that their major source is northwest Europe. The concentration of reworked nannofossils in down-core sediments indicates discharge of icebergs from the British and Fennoscandian ice sheets throughout the last glacial interval. During Heinrich intervals 1 and 2 an increased number of icebergs from these sources reached the northeastern Labrador Sea. These results suggest that the origin of Heinrich intervals 1 and 2 involved both North American and European ice sheets.
