Abstract

The Taconian orogeny is generally considered to have resulted from an arc-continent collision. However, geochronological data indicate that much Taconian deformation predates arc magmatism. We propose that the Late Ordovician–Early Silurian tectonic environment in southern Quebec resembled the configuration of the Oman-Iran transect, where subduction took place in the final stage of a large obduction.
