Abstract

The Ainsa marine foreland basin of the southern Pyrenees contains Eocene deltaic and turbidite sequences that were deformed synchronously by both thrusting and extensional faulting during sedimentation. Two basin-scale, extensional truncation surfaces developed within a prograding imbricate thrust wedge in the footwall of the Cotiella thrust sheet. Detailed mapping and analysis have shown that these features are major extensional detachment faults that produced complex sedimentological and stratal relations.
