Greenstone belts in the Slave craton represent the episodic accumulation of volcanic and sedimentary rocks over as much as 200 m.y. In the western craton, volcanic and sedimentary rocks were deposited between 2.81 and 2.60 Ga on 2.9->3.1 Ga sialic basement, not tectonically juxtaposed with it. Deposition of 2.6 Ga turbidite and conglomerate sequences across the entire Slave craton was synchronous with, or followed by, the main phase of regional deformation and metamorphism at 2.6-2.58 Ga and final stabilization of the craton.
