Abstract

Sophisticated statistical calculation by computer has been used to establish the components of single-element genera in a multi-element conodont genus in a heterogeneous fauna of thousands of individuals. Reconstruction of the assemblage of the Ordovician genus Amorphognathus was done on a fauna of only 583 individuals consisting of six single-element genera picked from stratigraphically distributed samples. The calculation is simple and can be done with a desk calculator.
