Abstract
In a joint French-American program, the axis of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is undergoing an intensive study. Broad regional mapping has been followed with surveys on a detailed scale. Twenty cruises have been made in a 100-km section of the Rift Valley, located about 400 km south of the Azores. In mid-1974, three submersibles will undertake a coordinated program of mapping, sampling, and observing the Rift Valley floor.
