Fischer plots in which cumulative cycle thickness corrected for linear subsidence is plotted against time were originally used in the study of Triassic peritidal sequences to define short-duration departures in relative sea level in the Milankovitch range (104 to 105 yr). However, they also provide a means of assessing magnitude of third-order (1 to 10 m.y.) fluctuations in sea level which, on the basis of their regional correlatability, we ascribe to eustatic events.
