Feldspathic sandstone in the Shoo Fly melange contains monocyclic 506 ± 22-m.y.-old detrital zircons and significant quantities of volcanic rock clasts. It is speculated that the feldspathic sandstones and their contained zircons were derived from detritus shed from the volcanic-plutonic Alexander terrane of southeastern Alaska during its Paleozoic residence at the latitude of northern California.
