Iversen suggested in 1936 that pollen analysis could be used to differentiate Quaternary tills. Heinonen (1957) distinguished various tills in Finland by pollen analysis. At Lindø, northeastern Fyn, in Denmark, boulder striations indicate three tills with different transport directions. These three tills, as sampled on one vertical section and a boring, differ in pollen and spore content, and three more horizons with unknown transport directions could be distinguished in the underlying tills.
