Cultural resources are an important nonrenewable national asset that, like the mineral resources in which they can occur, are finite and need protection. In the six years since 2002, geoarchaeological research funded by English Heritage (EH) through the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) has significantly enhanced our understanding and ability to safeguard the historic environment in areas impacted by aggregate extraction.
