Cambrian conodonts are less well known than those of most later periods. Since 1956, only 14 reports on the subject have been published. Due to the limited phylogenetic differentiation of the group near its origin, only a small variety of Cambrian genera and species is known, and many of these are fairly long ranging.

The record of Lower Cambrian conodonts is questionable for stratigraphic reasons, but Middle and Upper Cambrian conodonts have been reported from different areas. Cambrian conodonts are now known from Europe, North America, Asia (China, Iran), and Australia.
