The Earth is a dynamic planet and shaping the Earths’ surface and thus the environment we all live in and from is an ongoing process since billions of years. These continuous transient processes, however, remain largely unrecognized over most of the time. Exceptions are hazardous high-impact events such as earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, documenting the immense tectonic forces hidden below our feet.
