Abstract
The Gondwana sediments from the Pranhita-Godavari valley were analysed for major elements and some petrographical characters to find out the nature of the source of rocks, their palaeo weatbering and the palaeoclimatic conditions. The results of this study indicate that source rocks were mainly granitic in composition which had undergone K-metasomatism. Most of the major elements show large fractionation and mobilisation during weathering and transport while the intensity of weathering was highly variable under humid to subhumid climatic conditions.
