Mosasauridae
Convergence and constraint in the cranial evolution of mosasaurid reptiles and early cetaceans
Latest Maastrichtian middle- and high-latitude mosasaurs and fish isotopic composition: carbon source, thermoregulation strategy, and thermal latitudinal gradient
A biased fossil record can preserve reliable phylogenetic signal
ABSTRACT In 2017–2018, two fine arts undergraduate students, Todd Rowan and Moesha Wright, conceived and created a mural for the Dunn-Seiler Museum at Mississippi State University, Mississippi, USA, under the supervision of art professor emeritus Brent Funderburk. Students researched, conceptualized, and painted Mississippi Cretaceous Panorama , which interpreted the Late Cretaceous landscape that once surrounded the university and the momentous extinction event that brought the Mesozoic Era to its close. The project necessitated creativity to address several challenges, including funding, space constraints, and a local population with Young Earth views. The completed mural engages museum visitors with a mosasaur, ceratopsian dinosaur, and a meteorite impact—illustrating the local, terminal Mesozoic geologic history in a nonthreatening venue that can improve community geoliteracy.
A new species of Ectenosaurus (Mosasauridae: Plioplatecarpinae) from western Kansas, USA, reveals a novel suite of osteological characters for the genus 1

Dental histology of mosasaurs and a marine crocodylian from the Campanian (Upper Cretaceous) of southern Sweden: incremental growth lines and dentine formation rates
ABSTRACT Outcrops of Late Cretaceous Gulf Series strata (Woodbine, Eagle Ford, and Austin) in the Dallas area expose middle Cenomanian to the early Campanian (96 to ˜ 83 Ma) rocks, which are well known in the subsurface of the oil-rich East Texas Basin. Together with the underlying Comanche Series and overlying younger Gulf Series, this set of strata provides a record of the last 50 million years of the Cretaceous. Although both marine and terrestrial vertebrates are known in this interval, the Late Cretaceous record is primarily marine. On this field trip, sites are visited that have yielded sharks, bony fish, turtles, dinosaurs, crocodiles, pterosaurs, mammals, long- and short-necked plesiosaurs, and a classic record of mosasaur evolution.
