View of the wycheproofite structure along the a-axis, showing the layered character of the polyhedral arrangement: a layer composed of corner-linked ZrO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra, which alternates with a second layer built of AlO2(OH)4 (striped) octahedral zigzag chains (parallel to the a-axis, at a height of z = 0.5) and Na1-xO3(OH)2(H2O)2-y polyhedra. Large, small and very small spheres represent Na, Ow and H atoms, respectively. Both positions of the split Ow 11 site are shown, and the unit cell is also outlined.

(a) View of the crystal structure Zr2(NaPO4)4.6H2O (Poojary & Clearfield, 1994) along the c-axis and (b) view of ZrKH(PO4)2 (Clearfield et al., 1984) along the b-axis. Large spheres = alkali atoms, small spheres = O atoms of H2O molecules. The layers built of corner-linked ZrO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra present in both compounds are similar to that in wycheproofite (compare Fig. 2).
