First derivatives of Sb L3-edge XANES spectra of senarmontite (dashed line), bahianite (dash-dotted line) and whitecapsite (solid line). The second maximum of the derivative of the flank of the whitecapsite spectrum at about 4142 eV matches with that of the derivative of senarmontite. The second maximum for Sb(V) (bahianite) is located at a higher energy (about 4144.5 eV).

Sb L3-edge XANES spectra of elemental Sb [Sb(0): dotted line], senarmontite [Sb(III): dashed line], bahianite [Sb(V): dash-dotted line] and whitecapsite (solid line). The shift of the edge towards higher energy indicates an increase in the Sb valence from 0 to V. The edge flank of the whitecapsite spectrum matches the flank of the senarmontite spectrum.
