... indicative of buried carbonatitic and alkaline intrusions, and the lack of REE carbonates in amphibolite facies metacarbonatites suggests that these phases are not stable at elevated metamorphic pressure and temperature conditions. Introduction Carbonatites are relatively rare igneous rocks, composed...

The REE data of these rocks however, do not give absolute discrimination between marbles of meta-limestone and metacarbonatite origin. Micro-probe analytical data give better discrimination, and the chemical compositions...

Geological map of the Sokli carbonatite complex (modified from Vartiainen 1980 and Bedrock of Finland – DigiKP (2011)).The complex has a concentrically zoned structure that can be divided into a magmatic core, metacarbonatite and mesomatite zones surrounded by a fenite aureole with carbonatite veins. The country rocks are Archean mafic and ultramafic volcanic rocks and tonalitic migmatite. The location of the studied drill cores R301 and R302 at Jammi is 4 km south of the magmatic core of the Sokli carbonatite.

On an initial ε Nd versus initial 87 Sr/ 86 Sr diagram, the “metacarbonatites” of Goudini plot below and to the left of the mantle array, like most carbonatites the world over ( Nelson et al. 1988 ). It thus appears that the presumed asthenospheric mantle plume signature of the volcanic precursor has...
