In this study, we used the name database to investigate gender diversity among mineral eponyms. More than half (ca. 54%) of all mineral species are named...

...Sarah Hatherly; Christopher Spencer; Alexandra Pedersen Abstract Work-from-home initiatives have led to a disproportionate impact among different genders. An individual's perception of their own productivity is significant in understanding how equity-deserving groups are affected by disruptions...

This indicates that gender differences are experiential rather than biological in origin. This study suggests that both...

Respondents' perceived productivity, split into gender and factors directly affecting the work life of the participant. Included are associated p values of women versus men surveyed, and both genders combined comparing “yes” and “no” answers to each work-life factor in association with productivity. Colors in the bars are defined on the right side of the figure.

Gender (men and women only) of authors in each volume of Paleobiology 1975–2021. (A) Tallies of authors by binary gender overlaid on Paleontological Society membership for 2018–2021, the only years for which complete demographic data were available. Paleontological Society membership included a variety of gender descriptors (see Supplementary Table 1). We grouped transgender members with their authentic gender (e.g., transwomen with women), and all nonbinary markers into the category gender diverse. PNTA denotes those members who preferred not to disclose their gender. (B) Author gender normalized as a proportion. (C) Standardized residuals of a linear model describing the relationship between the number of authors, grouped by gender (M = men, W = women), in each volume across time. Negative residuals represent values below that expected for equal gender representation; positive residuals mean overrepresentation. Least-squares lines of best fit added to each gender group.

(A) Tally of first authors by gender for papers with more than one author. Lines of best fit represent least-squares linear models for each gender. (B) Standardized residuals of a linear model describing the relationship between the first authors in each volume across time. Negative residuals represent values below that expected for equal gender representation; positive residuals mean overrepresentation. Least-squares lines of best fit added to each gender. (C) Tally of single authors on paper in Paleobiology (1975–2021). Lines of best fit represent least-squares linear models for each gender. (D) Standardized residuals of a linear model describing the pattern of first authors in each volume across time. Least-squares line of best fit added to each gender. Negative residuals constitute underrepresentation; positive residuals mean overrepresentation. For all graphs, M = men; W = women.

Gender breakdown of editorial board members from selected journals; data accessed on journal websites on 8 April 2021. Editorial board members were assigned a binary gender using first names and, in some cases, based upon the authors’ own perceptions and knowledge. Abbreviation: n = number of editorial board members. There are two notable limitations to this analysis: (i) it may misgender people; (ii) gender is not binary, and non-binary people were not included in this first-stage analysis due to lack of available information.
