Europium anomaly (Eu*2/0.0722)/[(Sm/0.192) + (Gd/0.259)] vs. stratigraphic height for DDH B-164, 50 m south of the cross section in Figure 6. The eastern lens has a true thickness of 65 m here. The chlorite-altered footwall downhole and to the east has significant europium depletion, whereas a strong positive europium anomaly is present in the immediate hanging wall to the west.

Eu/Eu*-GdN/YbN reflecting the size of the negative europium anomaly versus the slope in heavy REE (McLennan and Taylor 1991). Sandstones with small europium anomalies and/or steep HREE patterns are similar to Archean turbidites, reflecting erosion of sandstones from primitive ocean-island volcanic rocks. Some LF sandstones have large Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* &lt; 0.55) identical to Mount Poster Formation rhyolites.

Rare earth element distribution patterns obtained from bryozoan carbonate mounds at Montmorency Falls. Parameter calculations are adapted from Haley et al. (2004). All patterns share the same slightly negative cerium anomaly consistent with a marine signature. The convex pattern associated with category 2 (view B), with a positive Europium anomaly most likely reflets illitization.
