Abstract Non-marine gastropod fossils are abundant in the Middle Jurassic Toutunhe Formation in the Ziniquanzi section of the southern Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, NW China, and in the Lower Jurassic Sangonghe Formation in the Tuziakeneigou section of Karamay in the northwestern Junggar Basin. Nine species attributed to the families Viviparidae, Valvatidae and Hydrobiidae and one undetermined species attributed to Truncatelloidea are systematically re-described. Most of these species are widely distributed in China and can be used for biostratigraphic correlation. The palaeoenvironment was reconstructed by using available sedimentological data combined with ecological data for extant gastropod relatives.
