Figure 4. Composite stratigraphic column of the Upper Cretaceous to Cenozoic deposits of the western flank of the Guaduas syncline. Field reevaluation of De Porta's (1966) sedimentary columns was carried out by Gómez and Pedraza (1993, 1994) on the Buscavidas Shale, Cimarrona Formation, and lower part of the La Seca Formation. In this paper, we also present descriptions of the upper La Seca, Hoyón, San Juán de Río Seco, and Santa Teresa Formations, as well as the San Antonio Formation of the Honda Group. See Figure 3 for location of measured sections. We also integrate De Porta's (1966) description of the Pliocene Mesa Formation. The stratigraphic positions of petrographic samples and dated volcanic samples are illustrated. Stratigraphic thicknesses were measured with tape and compass and Jacob staff. Paleoflow patterns are based on measurements of axes of trough cross-bedding, mainly, and gravel imbrication
