... ABSTRACT The Salmon River suture zone in west-central Idaho is a steep ocean-continent plate boundary separating Paleozoic-Mesozoic island-arc terranes and the ancestral western Laurentian margin that characterizes much of the central North American Cordillera. In the Riggins region, the most...

Late Mesozoic deformation across Salmon River suture zone (SRSZ). Gray-shaded panel covers magmatic gap (ca. 128–104 Ma) of Montz and Kruckenberg (2017). Dashed line follows a deformation path through geochronological constraints with the tightest uncertainty. Tectonic activity included westward-directed thrust and reverse faulting (ca. 116–104 Ma), which followed synkinematic garnet growth (ca. 128–120 Ma; i.e., earlier thrusting) in the eastern Olds Ferry and Wallowa terranes. Early Cretaceous tectonism temporally overlapped with Hazard Creek complex (HCC) magmatism (Table 1).

Summary of the geochronology data across the Salmon River suture zone (SRSZ) in west-central Idaho. In general, ages progress from oldest in the west to youngest in the east. The 40Ar/39Ar cooling age data from biotite and hornblende were compiled from Snee et al. (1995). The U/Pb ages are from the three igneous complexes that span the western Idaho shear zone (WISZ) in the McCall area: the Hazard Creek complex (HCC), the Little Goose Creek complex (LGC), and the Payette River tonalite (PRT) (Manduca et al., 1993). The timing of accretion is constrained by Sm-Nd dating (Getty et al., 1993). Note that the error bars for some dates are smaller than their symbol.
