Calculated temperature profile across a blue quartz phenocryst from the Rumburk granite (V). The length of the profile is 9000 μm. The precision of these temperature data, relative to the analytical uncertainties of the Ti determination, is less than the symbol size. The inset shows a photomicrograph of the crystal analysed.

Simplified geological map of the Lausitz–Jizera–Karkonosze (LJK) Zone (modified after Kozdrój et al., 2001, without Cenozoic sediments and volcanic rocks). (1) Cadomian igneous rocks, (2) Early Palaeozoic igneous rocks, (3) Variscan igneous rocks, (4) Proterozoic–Cambrian sedimentary and volcanic rocks (5) Cambrian–Lower Carboniferous sedimentary and volcanic rocks, (6) Cretaceous platform sediments. The gradual transition of the Rumburk granite into the Jizera gneiss is shown by increasing shade (2). The northern border of the LJK Zone is represented by the Intra Lusatian Fault in NW and the Intra Sudetic Fault in SE. Towns/villages: Bautzen (B), Frýdlant (F), örlitz (G), Liberec (L), Rumburk (R), Višňová (V), Zawidöw (Za), Zittau (Zi).

The geochemical compositions of the Rumburk granite and Izera gneiss are virtually identical: either the granite crystallized from a total melt from the gneiss or, more probably, the gneiss was derived by deformation...
