...Jerzy Nawrocki; Magdalena Pańczyk; Krystian Wójcik; Andrzej Tatur Abstract Zircon grains from nine erratic pebbles of granite, granodiorite–tonalite and quartzite from the Polonez Cove Formation (southern King George Island) were studied for their U–Pb isotope ages and provenance. The calculated...

Locations of possible source areas for exotic pebbles studied here in Antarctica. The Oligocene–Miocene palaeotopography features of Antarctica were adopted in simplified form from Paxman et al. (2019). Possible paths of transportation of the exotic pebbles are marked by arrows. The direction from the Transantarctic Mts is based also on the lithology and fossils found in the pebbles of the Polonez Cove Formation (Birkenmajer and Weiser 1985; Birkenmajer et al. 1985; Dingle and Lavelle 1998; Gaździcki 2008). a.s.l., above sea level.

Early to Late Oligocene samples from the Polonez Cove and Boy Point formations on King George Island, South Shetland Islands (magmatic arc), yielded an extremely depauperate terrestrial flora, likely resulting in part from poor vegetation cover during the Polonez Glaciation but also because...
