Line 5 in Twp 81 shows undifferentiated Paddy alloformation, displaying a very variable log signature, passing eastward into well-organized sandier-upward successions of Pelican allomembers PeA and PeB. Allomembers PeC and PeD thicken and become sandier eastward, and are well-exposed in the Athabasca River valley at site C and Pelican Cliffs. Sandstone at site C is exclusively quartz arenite.

Summary graphic logs for Athabasca River sections A, B and C, plus the Pelican Cliffs section described by Hay et al. (2012). The relative positions of outcrop sections along the Athabasca River are shown in the inset map. Correlation of bounding surfaces and lithological packages to nearby wells allows allostratigraphic units to be identified with reasonable confidence. Allomember PeA can be seen to downlap southward in nearby wells, and also between outcrop sites A and C, being represented at the latter site only by a veneer of granular sandstone on surface VE0. The thickness and facies changes between Pelican allomembers seen between outcrop exposures are mirrored by corresponding variability in regional well log cross-sections (Figs. 6–17).
