Parral district
Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Parral Mining District
Abstract This paper describes the history, geology and mineralization in some of the principal tnines of the district. The scope of the study and the geological data referred to allows generalizations for the whole of the district, but not the development and production, which are focussed on the Palmilla, Veta Colorada, and La Prieta mines of Zinc de México, S.A., part of the Industrial Minera México, S.A. de C.V. group.
Road Log From Parral to San Francisco Del Oro, Santa Barbara, Jimenez and Gomez Palacio, Durango
Abstract The first part of the day will be spent in a mineralized region which continues to be of great importance to Mexico's mineral production. An overview of the Parral district from a vantage point begins the day, followed by an underground visit at the Granadeña mine, San Francisco del Oro. The early afternoon allows for a brief surface visit at Santa Bárbara. In all three of these localities (Fig. 26), the ore consists of a lead-zinc-silver assemblage with minor amounts of recoverable gold and copper, and significant amounts of fluorite; all contained in fissure-vein deposits at the eastern margin of Sierra Madre Occidental. The latter part of the day will be spent in retracing the route through the city of Parral to Jimenez, followed by an evening's drive southwards through the desert basins, collectively known as the Bolson de Mapimí, with final destination at Gómez Palacio, Durango.
Abstract This is one of several important silver mines in Chihuahua. It is located south of central Chihuahua and forms part of the Parral Super district, which also includes the Santa Bárbara, Palmillas, Parral, and La Esmeralda Districts. The San Francisco del Oro District is approximately 100 km south of the city of Chihuahua, the state capital, and 20 km southwest of Hidalgo del Parral (Fig. 1). It is accessible by an excellent road system. Numerous mineralized bodies have been located to date. The famous Mina de Agua, discovered in 1567, gathered a horde of prospectors, and mining at La Prieta started in 1629. The San Diego de Minas Nuevas bonanza in 1645 renewed prospecting activity that developed dozens of silver and gold mines in the area, many of which are still in production. By 1659, more than 115 mines were operating.

Abstract The Santa Bárbara Mines are operated by Industrial Minera México, S.A. de C.V. Group, under the name of Minerales Metalicos del Norte, S.A. The mines are located in the southern part of the state of Chihuahua, approximately 25 km to the southwest of the city of Parral (Fig. 1).
