... the baseline values in slightly older and younger stratigraphic intervals. Martma (2005 ) described the MDICE in the Mehikoorma drill-core from southeastern Estonia and noted that it not only is present in the Aseri Stage but also extends into the Lasnamägi Stage. In a useful review of δ 13 C...

Stratigraphic chart illustrating the range of Amorphognathus aff. Am. ventilatus in relation to the GICE in the Puxihe section and the Mehikoorma (421) drill core, Estonia. The Estonian biostratigraphy and chemostratigraphy are based on Männik & Viira (2005) and Martma (2005), respectively. Note the close similarity in the first appearance datum (FAD) of this conodont species between the two sections. For explanation of lithological patterns in the stratigraphic columns, see Figure 4. The pattern in the 286.4–298.5 m interval in the Estonian drill-core denotes dolomitic marl with lenses and interbeds of carbonate.

The δ13C curve through the Darriwilian succession in the Mehikoorma (421) drill-core in southeastern Estonia (after Martma 2005). Conodont biostratigraphy is after Männik & Viira (2005). Apparently because of the paucity of index conodonts in the lower Baldone Formation, the Lenodus variabilis and Eoplacognathus crassus zones have not yet been recognized. The marked increase in δ13C values in the Microzarkodina ozarkodella Subzone that indicates the beginning of the MDICE should be noted. Baseline δ13C values do not return until near the end of the Darriwilian Stage (Martma 2005), which is above the 20 m level in the diagram. It should be noted also that the 0 m level in the diagram corresponds to a drill-core depth of 361.1 m and that most of the succession, although shown as limestone, has undergone diagenesis to dolostone. (For lithological patterns used in the stratigraphic columns in Figs 3,4,5,6, see Fig. 6.)
