View of Proterozoic and Paleozoic stratigraphy exposed in a ridge immediately north of Keele River in southern NTS 96D; view is roughly to the west from 64.256975°N, 127.560211°W. McClure and Abraham Plains formations belong to Katherine Group (Neoproterozoic); for details on these units, see Long and Turner (2012). Recessive notch between these units and Franklin Mountain Formation is underlain by red beds that previously were treated as a proximal facies of the Saline River Formation but are assigned to Nainlin Formation, newly defined herein. Stratigraphic thickness of Nainlin Formation is unmeasured at this site but is in the range of 50–100 m.

(a) Normalized age probability distribution plots from relevant Tonian strata in northwestern Canada and Alaska. Data from the Pinguicula Group(?) of the Keele Range (this study); Lahchah, Sunaghun, and Fred Creek formations of the Porcupine River area and Old Crow Range (this study, [14]); Mount Weller Group of the Shublik and Sadlerochit Mountains [13, 19, 76]; Katherine and Little Dal groups of the Mackenzie Mountains [108, 109]; and the Escape Rapids, Nelson Head, Wynniatt, Kilian, and Kuujjua formations of Amundsen Basin (order from oldest to youngest) [108, 114]. (b) Hf isotope geochemistry for detrital zircons in Tonian samples analyzed in this study and from Colpron et al. [14] compared to the data published from the Mount Weller Group of the North Slope subterrane [19]. (c) Normalized age probability distribution plots from Late Devonian to Mississippian strata discussed in text. Data from Darcy Creek formation (this study, [14]); Imperial and Tuttle formations [137, 138]; Parry Islands [139]; Unit C1 on Wrangel Island [150]; Tuttle Formation in Keele Range [14]; Kekiktuk Conglomerate (this study, [8, 35]). DM–depleted mantle [187], CHUR–chondritic uniform reservoir [188].
