... the waning stages of hornblende- and albite-bearing porphyry dike emplacement at 2650 ± 6 Ma and regional metamorphism. Subsequent brittle deformation in the Kalgoorlie gold field was accompanied by hydrothermal activity that may have led to some late gold mineralization or remobilization in extensional...

...K. A. Evans; G. N. Phillips; R. Powell Abstract The Kalgoorlie gold field contains structurally controlled, epigenetic gold deposits hosted by mafic rocks in the Archean Yilgarn craton of Western Australia. Its giant size has prompted much interest in the processes that led to its formation...

Gantt chart showing timing of events at Kalgoorlie gold field based on all available geochronology. Dates shown include U-Pb (circles) and 40Ar/39Ar (diamonds) ages with associated analytical uncertainties in solid lines. Dates shown in black are those determined in this study, whereas those in gray are from previously published studies (see Tables 3 and 4 for individual dates and references). The timing of deposition and volcanism associated with the Black Flag Beds (more recently termed the Kalgoorlie Sequence) is indicated by a dotted line through the youngest detrital zircon group in units at the bottom and top of the sequence. The dashed lines indicate the full uncertainty (i.e., including analytical, standard, decay constant uncertainties) associated with the four 40Ar/39Ar dates determined in this study. The full uncertainties are not shown for previously published 40Ar/39Ar dates but they would be on the order of about 1 percent. The interpreted time frames for gold mineralization and late brittle deformation are also indicated.
