...Peter J. Barnett Abstract Glacial Lake Whittlesey is related to the glacial advance during the Port Huron Stadial, approximately 13 000 radiocarbon years BP. This episode has previously been thought to be represented, in the eastern end of the Lake Erie basin, by the Paris and Galt Moraines...

A subsequent glaciolacustrine unit R overlaps unit Q. The onshore Galt and Moffat moraines, composed of Wentworth Till, correlate with ridges...

Map showing the trends (red) of offshore glacial sediment boundaries into the Lake Erie shore zone toward the glacial sediment boundaries exposed in the shore bluffs at lake level. Summary diagrams of sediment stratigraphy in shore bluff exposures between Long Point and Port Bruce, Ontario, from Barnett (1998) overlie a DEM of the onshore area (NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information 2022). Debris flows from Wentworth Till and upper glaciolacustrine strata in unit P correlate with upper strata in the Jacksonburg Delta (marked DDD) (Barnett 1985). The Jacksonburg delta is subaerial, fed by runoff that flowed outside the ice front marked by the Galt moraine. Dryas integrifolia and Salix herbacea leaves from the upper strata of this delta are dated at 15.96 cal ka BP (17 372–14 547 2σ) (13 360 ± 440 14C) BP (Barnett 1985). The intercalated glaciolacustrine layers largely consist of thick sand rhythmites (dotted) and thin silt and clay rhythmites (horizontal line patterns) as shown in the summary onshore diagrams. The surface units, especially between Jacksonburg and Port Burwell consist of glaciolacustrine and dune sands. Projection is World Mercator (WGS 1984).

Many three-dimensional (3D) subsurface geological models were created for various regions in southern Ontario following the Walkerton Inquiry ( O’Connor 2002 ) and the consequent source water protection initiatives. Such models have been used in Ontario...

Recessional moraines are commonly curve-linear and are generally till covered; in southern Ontario they have a cumulative length of ∼2100 km and an areal coverage of >4200 km 2 . Notable examples are the Galt...
