...J. G. Payne; J. A. Bratt; B. G. Stone Abstract The Britannia copper-zinc sulfide deposits, previously described as having formed from hydrothermal solutions emplaced into foliated host rocks, are reinterpreted as volcanogenic in origin and to have been deposited from hydrothermal and exhalative...

Schematic stereonet projection of the structures developed during D3 at the Kambalda-Saint Ives district, according to Bennet (1995), and interpreted orientation of the maximum shortening axis. 1 = early folding along north-northeast axes, refolding a north-northwest fold to give rise to domal structures; 2 = west-northwest–striking, steeply dipping porphyry dikes cut north-northeast–trending folds; 3 = west-northwest–directed thrusts (such as the Defiance C32 and C33 in Victory-Defiance, Revenge N01, and Orchin shear zones; Fig. 10) cut these dikes and some of them host gold mineralization which is contemporaneous to shearing (Nicholson, 1995); 4 = preexisting north-northwest–striking, D2 shear zones such as Repulse, Britannia, and Sirius faults are reactivated; 5 = the final stage of D3 is normal dip-slip movement in a west-northwest–east-southeast direction. Structures 1 to 4 are all related to the same west-northwest–east-southeast maximum compression axes (σ1) but 5 requires a change to west-northwest–east-southeast-oriented minimum compression axes (σ3; dashed arrows).
