... by these events. Geologic records thus provide key data regarding rock avalanche size, timing, and dynamics. Here we present a detailed case history analysis of the Devils Castle rock avalanche located near the town of Alta in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The deposit is ∼1.5 km in length with a Fahrboeschung...

No universal statements, however, may be made about the geometry of flow. The outer portions of five aureoles (Alta, Utah...

.... Comparison of results with observations from the Alta (Utah) contact aureole indicates that both mineral reactions and isotopic alteration record fluid flow through highly heterogeneous permeability. We interpret this extreme heterogeneity to be the result of positive feedback between reaction enhancement...

Three models are presented for the Alta, Utah, contact aureole to show that the observed...

...BYRON J SHARP Abstract The area described is about 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City and about 2 miles west of Alta, Utah. Eastward-dipping Precambrian quartzites and argillites have been intruded by a Tertiary pluton called the Little Cottonwood quartz monzonite. Another intrusive body...

Granodiorite dike, Alta stock, Wasatch Mountains, Utah; GPS receiver is 11 cm long. Unlike the 1-cm aplite dike that cuts across all other rocks in the outcrop, the 15-cm-thick granodiorite dike is obvious where it cuts across a mafic enclave, but, at the top and bottom of the photograph where it intrudes lithologically similar host granodiorite, its contacts are difficult to distinguish. A similar dike that did not intersect a mafic enclave would likely go unrecognized.
